The 2017 American League Sectionalisation Serial were two best-of-5-games series held to determine the participating teams in the 2017 American League Championship Series. The three divisional winners (seeded 1-3) and a fourth team—the winner of a one-game Wild Card playoff—played in two serial.

These matchups were:

  • (1) Cleveland Indians (Cardinal Partitioning champions) versus (4) New York Yankees (Wild Carte Game winner): Yankees win serial three–2.[2]
  • (two) Houston Astros (Westward Division champions) versus (3) Boston Ruddy Sox (Eastward Partitioning champions): Astros win series in 3–ane.[3] [four]

For the first time, Major League Baseball sold presenting sponsorships to all of its postseason serial; Doosan caused presenting sponsorship to the ALDS,[five] [6] and thus the serial was officially known as the American League Division Series presented by Doosan.[7]

The Astros would go on to defeat the Yankees in the ALCS, then win the 2017 Globe Series over the National League champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Information technology was the Astros first-e'er Globe championship.

This was the fourth postseason meeting between the Indians and Yankees, with Cleveland winning 2 of the 3 previous series including both times in the ALDS (1997 and 2007). The Yankees won the 1998 ALCS.
